I've been working on something on the style of Beyond Linux from Scratch on my own for a while now. I'm interesting in comparing the different Open Source libraries/applications out there and finding ones that are efficient and best suited to my needs. I also modify applications if they're close but not quite what I want. Thought it would be fun to do something like this more as a group project. The group could have meetings to discuss pros and cons of different libraries/applications/system utilities they find in particular categories and then try to build from source what they like best. Might be an easy way to try a Linux from Scratch style project with an old laptop or computer or with a device like a Raspberry Pi. If the project is done as a group and most or all of the work is done at meetings, it wouldn't be too time consuming. It would also be a great way to learn Linux from the ground up and understand how a Linux operating system works in detail.
Would anyone else be interested in a project like this? As I mentioned, I'm doing this on my own now, but it would be nice to have regular meetings, discuss topics with others and compare notes on finding, building, modifying applications and libraries. If there's any interest, please let me know. I'd love to get a group going.
